Abstract

Objectives
The main project objective is the identification of salt tolerant local landraces of tomato, bean, onion and garlic, for utilization in breeding programs and as seeds for farmers.
Specific objectives:
1. Biochemical, physiological, genetic and molecular characterization of genotypes collected from saline areas in Western and Northern Romania.
2. Conservation with conventional and non-conventional methods of valuable genotypes, for present and future utilization.
3. Creation of an on-line database with researches in physiology, genetics and molecular biology of tested genotypes and dissemination of results through scientific publications and workshops.
4. Initiation of a breeding program for obtaining new genotypes, with tolerance to salinity and stable production.
The main phases of the project will be:
1.Identification, collection and characterization of the biological material and soil samples from saline areas
2. Evaluation of salinity tolerance potential of collected landraces by physiological and biochemical tests
3. Molecular tests and genetical fingerprint of selected salt tolerant genotypes
4. Creating a database (on line) and germplasm collection
5. Management, training, dissemination and extension
The deliverables which will be achived are: 21 articles in published or accepted for publication in the main international scientific stream, machinery and equipment in value of 171,2 thousands lei, 4 request for registered invention patents using the germplasm collected, scientific papers / articles (described in previous phases) will have a minimum of 4 cumulative relative impact factor, a training course of one month with two young researchers.

Objectives The main project objective is the identification of salt tolerant local landraces of tomato, bean, onion and garlic, for utilization in breeding programs and as seeds for farmers.
Specific objectives: Biochemical, physiological, genetic and molecular characterization of genotypes collected from saline areas in Western and Northern Romania; Conservation with conventional and non-conventional methods of valuable genotypes, for present and future utilization; Creation of an on-line database with researches in physiology, genetics and molecular biology of tested genotypes and dissemination of results through scientific publications and workshops. Initiation of a breeding program for obtaining new genotypes, with tolerance to salinity and stable production.
Estimate results Publication of 5 papers in international scientific field, containing information about the results of studies regarding sampled soils and identified, collected and characterized local landraces; identification, collection and characterization of local populations of tomatoes, beans, onions and garlic (100/species); Publication of 8 articles in international scientific field, containing informations about the results of physiological and biochemical studies on assessed local landraces;
Identification and selection of populations that show high tolerance to salinity (15 / species) as well as those sensitive (5/species) to study them at molecular level and value their potential; Publication of 8 articles in international scientific field, containing information about the genetic fingerprint and phylogenetical relatedness for every species from the study; 80 genetic fingerprints of the local populations studied, 4 dendrograms (1/specie) regarding the phylogenetic relationships between them; Four invention patents registered using the collected germplasm with salt tolerance; comprising a germplasm collection of 80 genotypes of which 60 salinity tolerant, a database on collected and characterized germplasm;
